What’s the Controversy around Bhool Chuk Maaf’s Release Date?
Now, if you’re wondering what exactly happened with Bhool Chuk Maaf’s release date and why there was a controversy, let me explain. Earlier, this film was supposed to release on May 9, 2025. However, owing to the aftereffects of the Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor, and increasing tensions between India and Pakistan, the makers of the film decided to cancel the theatrical release. They then decided to go for a direct OTT release on May 16, 2025. Fans and multiplex owners were equally disappointed. Then came a twist!
The PVR Inox multiplex chain decided to take legal action against the makers of the film. It filed a lawsuit against Maddock Films for breach of contract. It claimed that the cancellation has cost the multiplex chain a loss of around INR 60 crores. On May 9, 2025, the Bombay High Court stalled the Bhool Chuk Maaf’s OTT release on May 16. It issued an ad-interim injunction, where Maddock Films had to hold the OTT release at least till the completion of an eight-week holdback period with PVR Inox. Later, in a surprising turn of events, both Maddock Films and PVR Inox came to an agreement. They decided to release the film in theatres on May 23, 2025, and later release it on OTT two weeks later on June 6, 2025.
